The Danish jazz orchestra, Strange Party Orchestra, is - as the name indicates - not quite a ordinary jazz band, and one should not buy the releases from this orchestra in the believe that it's party all over. That is not so. Not on this cd or the previous three releases. The expression of the music is much more complex but not strange either. No doubt that Travellers? Tale will be listed under jazz in cd-shops, but this designation is not entirely true either. What is it then? Well, you can say this much. The organ is more than any other instrument up front on this the fourth and most brilliant cd by Strange Party Orchestra. A cd which is almost like a consistent cinematic fairytale from one end to another. A cd which takes form as a connected narrative soundtrack to a dark and rainy motion picture without a happy ending. The music is so complex that more layers opens when listening to it again and again. Is it boring? Oh no, on the contrary it's simple, but original, beautiful and in context.
Ivan Rod, GAFFAWonderful music from one of the underestimated orchestras of Denmark. These damned musicians choose their own paths to follow, disregarding the fencing wire others laboriously has put up. That is annoying, it really is! Strange Party Orchestra has created a beautiful and lovely cd. The music is different but not strange nor difficult to listen to. The drummer and the percussionist stands for one of the characteristics of the orchestra: A sparkling and imaginative use of gongs, bells, woodblocks, plastic bathing animals - you name it! This arsenal of percussion instruments gives pastry to the music, makes it alive, beautiful, rebellious, bevelled and from time to other funny. Not that these two percussionists overshadow the other members of the band - the vibrating organs played by Anders Vestergaard, the emotional saxophones played by Kristian Vilmann and the solid bass played by Tina Mou. Are you curious to hear this characteristic band? I promise, you won't be disappointed.
Jan Overgaard Mogensen, UndertonerStrange Party Orchestra from Denmark has existed for more than 15 years. In the summer 2005 they made a very polite début in one of the most important festivals in Holland the Zomer Jazz Fiets Tour. The cinematic music of the Strange Party Orchestra with a head role for organ and percussion did it very well, and was not as stretching as some of the other concerts at the festival this year. Strange Party Orchestra therefore became a positive and inspiring oasis.
Koen Schouten, Jazzcoordinator at De Volkskrant-HollandEvery festival has got big stars. The feedback from the audience to Strange Party Orchestra concerts at the Mediawave Festival was clear. Strange Party went from Unknown Strangers to favourites!! They presented the audience with real musical experiences. So thanks again and again.
Peter Puskér, Music manager at Mediawave Festival, Hungary 2006
Strange party Orchestra are grotesque genius, and after 18 years on the stage they are still crazy but in a extremely diciplined way. Go and see them if you dare!

"My wife has threatened to beat me if I don't make a good review of Strange Party Orchestra. That's not why I am doing it, it's simply because it's damn good and very funny"
